Tips for Successful Stage Presentation
The walk-on category is for showing off your cosplay only — entrants in this category are not prejudged. You will have 30 seconds to complete your catwalk presentation. Make the most of this time. Don’t walk, PERFORM! You have a lot more time than you think you do and our photographer will need photos, so be sure to pose and not just run across the stage. Runway-style music will be played to provide atmosphere and to maintain an upbeat tempo.
Dress Code
- Cosplays must cover anything that a swimsuit would cover. There may not be exposed nipples, buttocks, or genitalia. This includes the appropriate undergarments for bodysuits and modesty garments under skirted costumes. This is a family-friendly convention. Inappropriate costumes may be denied admission or disqualified.
- Cosplays may not contain profanity, hate speech (including symbols that denote hate speech), or sexual content inappropriate for ages 13 and under. This is a family-friendly convention. Inclusion of this material will result in denied admission or disqualification.
- Cosplays may not contain props that may present a hazard in the convention environment. This includes limitations on prop weapons and other items that are carried or wielded as detailed in the safety section. Cosplay items and props should not be able to cause accidental harm to people or damage to property in a crowded environment. All costume props are subject to approval of event staff.
- Cosplays that use feathers, glitter, body paint or other decoration that is not transfer proof must be sealed properly. All costumes may be subject to a smear test to ensure that they will not come off on others or walls given casual contact.
Safety Rules
Junior contestants must be accompanied by their parent/guardian at all times. This is to ensure a safe environment for all of our junior competitors.
Props should not present a hazard to people or property. The details below are provided to guide cosplayers in selecting/constructing appropriate props. All props are subject to inspection and approval by event staff.
Bladed Items – should not be made of sharpened steel and must be sheathed and peace tied at all times. Bladed items include but are not limited to swords, bayonets, knives, daggers, star knives, shurikens, and other objects fashioned to have an edge. This holds true regardless of whether the object is actually sharp. Bladed items should be worn in a scabbard that is attached to your person. You may be asked to remove bladed items that cannot be acceptably peace tied.
Projectile Prop Weapons – acceptable only if they are not capable of being “fired” irrespective of the presence of ammunition. Projectile prop weapons include, but are not limited to: airsoft guns of any kind (functional or not), BB and other pellet guns, bows with arrows, crossbows with bolts, dart guns, blowguns, water guns/pistols, stun guns, tasers, Nerf guns. Molded items with no moving parts or projectile prop weapons that are acceptably peace tied may be accepted at the discretion of event staff.
Blunt prop weapons, polearms, and swinging objects – acceptable only if fashioned in a manner to prevent accidental hazards. Items should be less than 6 feet in length. Materials should be soft, flexible or collapsible. Where practical these items should be worn attached to your person or costume in a manner that prevents accidental harm.
Entries are not permitted to include pyrotechnics or explosions in any capacity. This includes but is not limited to: flash paper, sparklers, confetti poppers, fireworks of any kind, matches, and lighters.
Cosplays which include elements that impede safe navigation must be accompanied by a handler. This includes but is not limited to costumes that restrict vision, require stilts, or have oversized worn items (i.e. armor).
Entries must not contain profanity, sexual content, or any other adult content inappropriate for ages 13 and under. Inclusion of this material will result in an automatic disqualification.
Entries cannot contain mock combat unless pre-approved by contest staff. Any impromptu stage combat will result in an automatic disqualification.
